Village Historian makes case for keeping College Archives in Aurora

The WLS was copied on, and referenced in, a 6/26/24 letter from Aurora Village Historian Linda Schwab ’73 to the Wells College Board of Trustees.

The letter accompanied Dr. Schwab’s impressive documentation in support of keeping Wells’ historic archives and a substantial part of its collections in Aurora.

The letter states that…

the relationship between the Village of Aurora and Wells College is unusually close. It can well be said that their histories are inextricable, and indeed, the Wells College Archives, related artifacts, and some of Wells’ art collection, cannot be separated into ‘local history’ vs. ‘Wells history’.

And it confirms that …

the NYS Museum would rather see the Wells College artifacts and archives stay local.

To date, the WLS is doing whatever it can to support the Village Historian’s effort, including giving assistance in locating temporary storage space.

The Village Historian’s letter received a cordial response from the Chair of the Wells Board of Trustees.

Read the letter and see the documentation here.
