Wells College Campus for Sale

Our beloved alma mater is on the market, posted out for bids on the first of November, 2024, just six months after the closure announcement.

The full listing details are here with an illustrated pdf sales flyer .

Keep a close eye on the wording in this offering of "a unique opportunity, whether as a turnkey acquisition for another institutional user or as a redevelopment for a creative developer looking to repurpose this beautiful site.”

Bear in mind that the zoning of the core campus remains Institutional, as reaffirmed by the Village of Aurora Board of Trustees on July 24, 2024, A portion of the peripheral campus is zoned Mixed-Use and would allow for limited commercial development. The Pleasant T. Rowland LLC holds a right of first refusal (ROFR) on the campus, but it cannot be used to interfere with sale to a nonprofit educational insitution. The Village Trustees wish it to remain Educational for the sake of the community and surrounding Finger Lakes region.

In the brochure, the pictured campus buildings look so very beautiful.

And they all are at extreme risk while they remain unheated through the winter.

Why would the college’s leadership expose the campus’ nationally significant historic buildings to irreparable harm in advance of a sale?
