Aurora/Wells featured in Chronicle of Higher Education

Ready to enter the Main Street parade, an Aurorafest 2024 float carrying former staff and faculty waits on Court Street .

A national reporter from The Chronicle of Higher Education contacted the Wells Legacy Society (WLS) in October. She was deciding which campus to visit for a planned nationwide feature story about the impact of college closures on communities..

Soon after our 90 minute phone interview, she settled on coming to Aurora, where she found much insight for a very compelling story. Her piece appeared on December 13, 2024.

The 4,500 word feature article, When Gown Leaves Town, is being read across the country by people engaged in and concerned about higher education.

A “legal” pdf of the subscribers-only article, provided to the WLS by the author, is shared here.

The WLS continues to shine the brightest light possible on the issues facing Aurora and the legacy of our alma mater in the ongoing aftermath of its closure. Our goal remains to advance real solutions that will protect, preserve and share the legacy of Wells College — it’s artifacts, archives, architecture and assets.
